Packaging Cockpit and GS1 Hungary Launch Strategic Partnership to Accelerate PPWR Readiness in Hungary

Together with CSAOSZ, the partners will provide Hungarian businesses with an internationally proven digital solution for packaging data management and regulatory compliance.

Packaging Cockpit GmbH and GS1 Hungary have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to support Hungarian businesses in preparing for the European Union's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Working in close cooperation with the National Association of Packaging and Materials Handling (CSAOSZ), the partners will introduce the internationally proven Packaging Cockpit platform to the Hungarian market, complemented by local implementation support, professional guidance and training services.

The PPWR represents one of the most significant regulatory changes affecting packaging and packaging data management in Europe. As companies prepare to meet the new requirements, the availability of structured, reliable and transparent packaging data is becoming a critical success factor—not only for regulatory compliance, but also for efficient collaboration across increasingly interconnected supply chains.

Recognising these challenges, GS1 Hungary established the Packaging Working Group under the umbrella of its Retail Platform Initiative, bringing together leading manufacturers, retailers, brand owners, packaging producers and industry experts to identify practical solutions that help Hungarian businesses prepare for the new regulatory landscape. The initiative is carried out with the professional support of CSAOSZ, Hungary's leading packaging industry association.

During the evaluation of international best practices, the working group identified Packaging Cockpit as one of Europe's most comprehensive and mature digital solutions for packaging data management and PPWR compliance.

Already successfully implemented in Austria and increasingly adopted across Europe, Packaging Cockpit enables organisations to centrally manage packaging specifications, exchange packaging information with business partners and maintain the documentation required to demonstrate compliance with evolving European legislation.

The solution is already attracting considerable interest in Hungary. Several major retailers operating in the Hungarian market have expressed their commitment to the platform, are recommending it to their supplier networks, or are actively evaluating its implementation as part of their PPWR readiness programmes.

Through the newly signed cooperation agreement, GS1 Hungary will act as Packaging Cockpit's strategic implementation and market development partner in Hungary. Together with CSAOSZ, the organisations will work to ensure that Hungarian companies can benefit not only from the software platform itself, but also from comprehensive local support throughout their implementation journey.

The cooperation includes the localisation of the platform through a Hungarian-language user interface, the development of Hungarian onboarding and training programmes, and the establishment of first-level local customer support.

Beyond supporting individual companies, the initiative aims to contribute to the wider digital transformation of packaging data management in Hungary by promoting harmonised data structures, improved supply chain collaboration and greater transparency throughout the packaging lifecycle.

"GS1 Hungary plays a vital role in supporting businesses through globally recognised standards and deep industry expertise. We are excited to combine these strengths with Packaging Cockpit's technology to provide companies with practical solutions for managing packaging compliance and preparing for the regulatory challenges ahead."

Beáta Gönci, Secretary General, National Association of Packaging and Materials Handling (CSAOSZ)

The partnership represents an important milestone in making internationally recognised packaging data management solutions available to the Hungarian market. By combining Packaging Cockpit's digital platform with GS1 Hungary's over 40 years of experience supporting companies in their business challenges and CSAOSZ's network, professional knowledge of packaging and industry, Hungarian companies will gain access to a comprehensive ecosystem that supports both regulatory compliance and long-term business efficiency.

As implementation of the PPWR progresses across Europe, the partners are committed to supporting businesses with practical tools, expert guidance and trusted local assistance, enabling organisations of all sizes to successfully prepare for the new regulatory era.
